Educational Elementary Summer Camp

This summer, over 100 elementary students participated in Grace Place’s educational summer camp, where they tackled the “summer slide” head-on. Research indicates that between 70% and 78% of students experience a decline in math skills and also lose up to two months of reading proficiency over the summer, underscoring the critical need for programs like ours to maintain academic progress.

Math centers and English Language Arts sessions focused on reinforcing core academic skills, ensuring students stayed sharp in these crucial subjects. STEM activities sparked curiosity and honed problem-solving skills, while art classes encouraged creativity and self-expression. Breakfast and lunch were provided to ensure all students had access to nutritious meals essential for their learning and development. The majority of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch during the academic year, so providing essential meals in the summer eases the burden on their parents.

Swimming sessions offered a refreshing break, taught important water safety skills, and gave some kids their first swimming lessons. Field trips to the Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium, Big Cypress National Preserve, IMAG History & Science Center, and visits from educational experts like Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve and the Conservancy of Southwest Florida deepened students’ understanding of nature and science.

Beyond summer fun, our camp’s mission is to bridge the gap between school years, ensuring each child returns in the fall prepared to continue their educational journey without setbacks. As another successful summer concludes, we celebrate the growth, learning, and cherished memories created at Grace Place’s educational summer camp. Together, we’re shaping bright futures and empowering young minds to thrive because education changes everything.
