Making Waves: Grace Place Students Learn Swimming and Water Safety Skills
At Grace Place, we believe every child deserves the chance to feel confident and safe in the water. This summer, our elementary students are doing just that—participating in swim lessons focused on building essential water safety skills.
Through this program, students are learning how to float, kick, and move through the water, while also understanding how to stay safe around pools and open water. These lessons go beyond physical skills—they’re about building confidence, reducing fear, and giving students the tools they need to protect themselves in water-related situations.
Swimming is more than just a summer activity—it’s a vital life skill. Yet many children from low-income families face barriers to accessing swim instruction. Studies show that children in lower-income households are significantly less likely to have strong swimming ability, putting them at greater risk for drowning.
At Grace Place, we’re working to change that. By providing free access to swim lessons, we’re closing the gap for students who may not otherwise have the opportunity to learn. We’re proud to support our students as they grow stronger, braver, and safer this summer—and for many summers to come.
