New Cohorts for High School Growth

At Grace Place, we are thrilled to announce some exciting changes in our high school after-school program designed to better support our students as they navigate their journey into adulthood. Our purpose is clear: we empower our students to transition into adulthood with confidence, equipping them with academic knowledge, essential life skills, self-awareness, and strategic relationships necessary for success in a rapidly evolving world. Our commitment is to provide access to a variety of pathways to help students reach their imagined future, prepared to achieve their full potential beyond the classroom.

To enhance our support, we’ve introduced four distinct cohorts within our high school program:

  1. Freshmen 101: This cohort is specifically tailored for 9th graders, focusing on a successful transition into high school. Freshmen 101 emphasizes English Language Arts (ELA) and algebra, along with life skills and early career planning. Our goal is to help students adapt smoothly to high school and start thinking about their future aspirations.

  2. English Express: Designed for students across all grades who are learning English as a second language, English Express focuses on improving English language proficiency. This cohort provides targeted support to help students gain confidence and fluency in English, which is crucial for their academic and personal success.

  3. Techworks: For students in grades 10-12 who plan to enter the workforce immediately after graduation, Techworks is all about career preparation. This cohort supports students in creating a post-secondary plan, offers mentoring, ensures they stay on track for graduation, and includes industry-related field trips to give them real-world insights into potential career paths.

  4. Scholars: Aimed at students in grades 10-12 who aspire to attend college, Scholars focuses on college readiness. This cohort helps students create a robust post-secondary plan, provides mentoring, supports maintaining a high GPA, and includes visits to colleges and universities to help them make informed decisions about their higher education options.

Each afternoon in our high school program is structured to include an academic hour for homework and tutoring help, followed by a dedicated cohort focus. This approach ensures that students receive the academic support they need while also engaging deeply with their chosen cohort’s focus area.

We are excited about these changes and believe they will significantly enhance the support we offer to our high school students. By providing tailored resources and guidance, we aim to help each student achieve their full potential and prepare for a successful future. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of these new cohorts and continuing to support our students on their journey to adulthood!
