Summer Fashion Academy: Students Shine on the Runway

This summer, our middle school students explored the world of style and creativity in our Fashion Choice Academy, thanks to a special partnership with the Bayshore Arts District. Guided by mentors JuJu Jacobs, Josey Prior, and Amanda Jaron, students learned that fashion design is more than an art form—it can also be a career path. Through hands-on projects, they designed and created real pieces that reflected their individuality and growing confidence.

The culmination of their hard work came on an exciting stage: the 2nd Annual EMBELLISHED Wearable Arts Fashion Show. This high-energy event, hosted by Bayshore Arts District, transformed the venue into a runway of one-of-a-kind wearable masterpieces. For the first time, the show included a student collection designed by Grace Place middle schoolers. Several of their pieces were auctioned off, with 50% of proceeds benefiting Grace Place to support even more opportunities for young artists.

One highlight of the evening was seeing our student Medjine walk the runway modeling her own design—an unforgettable moment of pride and accomplishment. Experiences like this not only showcase our students’ talent but also help them see what’s possible when passion meets opportunity.

Fashion is just one of the many engaging experiences offered through our Choice Academies program, alongside healthcare, art, culinary, 3D printing, chess, and more. Each academy introduces students to diverse fields—from technology and trades to arts and community leadership—helping them uncover their passions, build skills, and envision their futures.

And thanks to a new $210,000 multi-year grant from the Women’s Foundation of Collier County, we’re expanding this model with our Middle School Career Discovery Academy. This initiative will focus on introducing middle school girls to high-demand careers and industries while connecting them with professional women mentors who can inspire and guide them.

Shoutout to the Bayshore Arts District! We love teaming up with incredible local partners.
