Building Confidence Beyond the Classroom

This summer, Grace Place high school students are building more than academic skills—they are developing the confidence, communication abilities, and career readiness needed for future success.

Two recent events showcased that growth in action.

At Cookies & Conversation, students participated in a speed-networking experience with volunteers from the community. For many students, who are continuing to build English literacy skills, it was an opportunity to practice real-world conversations in a welcoming and supportive environment. Each conversation helped strengthen communication skills, build confidence, and prepare students for future educational and professional opportunities.

Students also demonstrated their growing leadership and career readiness through our Entrepreneurship Showcase. Working in teams, students developed original business concepts and presented them to local business leaders. Their innovative ideas included an app designed to help people improve pronunciation while learning a new language, a sensor-equipped soccer ball to assist officials with game decisions, and a quick, convenient nail care kit for people on the go.

From creating budgets and marketing strategies to delivering formal pitches, students gained hands-on experience in critical thinking, problem solving, public speaking, and teamwork. Just as importantly, they learned how to turn an idea into a plan and present it with confidence.

These experiences help students connect classroom learning to real-world opportunities, building the skills and confidence needed to pursue college, careers, and other meaningful pathways after high school.
