Empowering Future Entrepreneurs
This summer, our high school students embarked on an exciting entrepreneurial journey, working to create innovative products and businesses in a program inspired by the hit show “Shark Tank.” With the invaluable support of Advance the Faith, our students formed groups and began brainstorming their unique business ideas.
Throughout the summer, these dedicated students developed every aspect of their businesses. From marketing strategies to budgeting, revenue projections, and startup costs, they covered it all. Staff and volunteers provided essential feedback, helping the students refine their concepts and prepare for their final presentations.
Last week, our budding entrepreneurs showcased their hard work to a panel of “sharks,” including our very own CEO, Lära Fisher. Each group presented their business plans and answered challenging questions from the sharks, demonstrating their knowledge and passion for their ideas.
The winning business, Slay with JEC, a teaching hair salon, wowed with their exceptional teamwork, critical thinking, and entrepreneurial spirit. Throughout this process, the students gained invaluable skills and insights. They learned the importance of collaboration, communication, and leveraging each member’s strengths to achieve a common goal. Developing a business plan required them to think critically about every aspect of their idea, from feasibility to profitability. Presenting to the “sharks” honed their public speaking and presentation skills, teaching them how to effectively convey their ideas and handle questions under pressure.
They also learned what it takes to be an entrepreneur, including the importance of innovation, resilience, and adaptability. The program provided a practical, hands-on experience that bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application. We are incredibly proud of our students for their hard work, creativity, and dedication. Their achievements this summer are a testament to their potential as future business leaders.
