High School Summer Camp Explores Careers, Nature, and Creativity

This summer, Grace Place’s high school summer camp combined a strong academic program with engaging field trips to inspire curiosity, build skills, and help prevent the summer slide, the common loss of academic progress during summer break. Our academic camp provided focused learning to keep students on track while field trips offered real-world experiences and career exploration.

Students visited the IMAG History & Science Center in Fort Myers, diving into interactive exhibits that brought history, technology, and natural science to life. This encouraged critical thinking beyond the classroom and supported the development of STEM skills.

Creativity and practical skills came together during a super fun mini-golf outing where students studied course design and construction. After golfing, they used physics and math to design their own courses and, with the help of volunteers, actually built them. Click here to check it out!

At Great Wolf Lodge, students explored career options in hospitality and entertainment. Staff shared insights on roles from customer service to event coordination, highlighting teamwork and communication skills essential for success in a family-focused resort environment.

Nature and conservation were key themes on trips to the Cypress Dome Trails and the Naples Zoo. On a guided hike, students learned about the Everglades ecosystem and wetlands preservation. At the zoo, interactive sessions with zookeepers deepened their understanding of wildlife conservation and the role zoos play in protecting endangered species.

Together, these varied experiences gave students valuable career exploration and hands-on learning opportunities. Grace Place’s summer camp helped students develop new skills, stay academically engaged, and prepare confidently for the school year ahead.
